Looking for a place to learn to play volleyball or just play a recreational game? You can play on the Open Play days here in Laguna Woods, but lately Open Play days have been poorly attended. While the Volleyball Advanced Club club is focused on experienced players looking for a competitive game, there are other resources available in the area to play and learn volleyball. One great way to find places to play is meetup.com. Meetup.com’s home page states, “Whatever your interest, from hiking and reading to networking and skill sharing, there are thousands of people who share it on Meetup. Events are happening every day…” You can search for Events using keywords (like “volleyball”) and specify the distance you’re willing to travel. You don’t have to login to search for events, but you will have to sign up to RSVP to an event. There is no charge to sign up, but there is a fee if you want to create your own group. There can be fees to attend some events, but that is clearly stated on the Group’s webpage. I was even recently alerted to a new Group in Irvine called “Opportunity Volleyball (Beginner Indoor Co-ed Adult lessons)”. While the Club does not promote and cannot vouch for any of the groups, I personally have attended many events over the years (I have no experience with the Group mentioned above). I have found them to be fun and as advertised. So give Meetup a try if you're looking to play more volleyball than what is available here in the Village.
